My mom was having a Cuba trip last week and she got me this marvelous bag. When I asked her how was Cuba, she answered:
Poor and artistic.
From ancient greek, we knew that art, intellectuality, philosophy and science could be only possible with a welfare state and nearly rich society. So how can the people of a communist country, who can not afford a toilet paper or windows to their houses, make art?
Firstly, let’s talk about what do we mean by ‘poor’? If we’re looking for Arabic, Dubai style richness, that’s luxury. A richness of North Western EU countries is welfare. Cuba neither has any of them. They have housing, food, water provided by the government. Anything you need to survive. But nothing more.
Even if they’re not a ‘rich’ or ‘welfare’ country; it looks like if a community overcomes survival concerns, they do have a space for Art. The survival concerns of poor countries, morally killing their citizens. At least housing, food and water must be free to every human being. In 2022, it is really unbelievable and blocks humanity development to work for rents, bills & grocery shopping.
In Cuba, even if they can not afford quality painting materials, they find a way to express themselves with any kind of material.
